Packing for Korea: 5 Essential Things

If you are planning to get around and explore Seoul on your own, then you definitely need following items:

Buy a T-Money Card at your local convenience store (GS 25, CU, 7-Eleven, Mini Stop, With Me, Buy The Way, Story Way) or subway Station and charge it, so you can take the public transportation (bus, subway) or even pay your taxi ride. It is more convenient than to buy a single ticket for a every ride at the machine.

Download a subway app e.g. “subway korea”, it shows you the whole network, the time and tells you which door to get in and off for a fast interchange, otherwise it is sometimes a long walk to the next line.

Download a currency converter app  e.g. “simplecurrency”, so you can check the rates.

Bring home slippers, especially when you are staying private via airbnb or at a hostel because before entering a home in South Korea you take your shoes off before stepping inside. It is generally not a korean specific habit, but just so you know.

If you perspire a lot – don’t forget to bring your deodorant. As in most South East Asian countries it is difficult to find a cheap deodarant (stick) in South Korea.
